The damage shown in this photo of HMS Illustrious's flight deck on January 10, 1941, is not that of a bomb hit.
According to the Damage Report, the entry point of the 2200lbs weapon is where you can see the white smoke coiling out of the deck.
So what is that petaled mangle of metal?
